Revitalized Medvedev Claims First Championship in Nearly 30 Months
Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt
A resurgent the Russian player claimed his first title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging period, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.
Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.
Currently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's maiden championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of that year.
Victory also signifies he has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.
"For the first time I am participating in a event with my children together, so to get a title is particularly special," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, including in Halle previously this season.
The player's counter-punching strategy and frequent emotional displays on court had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.
However the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.
He came back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.
The pair traded service breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.
The opponent defended four early-game chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.
Fittingly, the winner earned the win with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
